What is MIG welding and when do you use it?

MIG, short for metal inert gas, is a fast, productive welding process that uses a continuous wire feed and shielding gas. It’s the workhorse for production welding, structural repair, and most steel work where speed matters more than the finish look.

MIG is faster than stick and easier to control on long welds. For exposed cosmetic beads, food-safe stainless, or thin material, TIG is the better call. For most other steel work, MIG.
