When should I get a welding inspection?

Before final sign-off on commercial structural work, after a major repair on safety-critical equipment, on used equipment you’re considering purchasing, when an insurer or inspector requires it, or any time you have a question about whether a weld is sound.

Inspections during fabrication, called in-process inspections, catch problems while they’re cheap to fix. Inspections after the fact catch problems before they become incidents.
