How often should hardfacing be reapplied?

Depends on the equipment and the use. Bucket teeth on a hard-running excavator might need re-facing every few hundred hours. Plow shares on sandy ground might go a season. Mill hammers running ore might need it monthly.

The right cadence is whatever keeps the wear from getting deep enough that the base metal starts to take damage. Wait too long and you’ve lost the part. Re-face on schedule and the part runs forever.
