What is TIG welding and when is it the right choice?

TIG, short for tungsten inert gas, is a precision welding process that uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode and a separate filler rod fed by hand. It produces clean, controllable beads with very low spatter, which makes it the right choice for thin material, exposed welds, and jobs where the look of the finished bead matters.

TIG is the standard for stainless food-contact surfaces, aluminum, and precision repair. For heavier production work, MIG or stick is usually faster. See our MIG welding and stick welding pages for the alternatives.
