Submerged Arc Welding (SAW)

Submerged Arc

Mobile Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) from Arc Tech Enterprises

Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) is a highly efficient and automated welding process that involves the formation of an arc between a continuously fed electrode and the workpiece, which is submerged beneath a layer of granular flux.

The flux serves multiple purposes: it protects the molten weld pool from atmospheric contamination, provides thermal insulation, and contributes to the formation of a smooth, slag-free finish.

This method is particularly effective for joining thick sections of steel and other materials.

Amazing custom work from Lance at Arc Tech. He custom built this fireplace trim and it looks & fits perfectly. Couldn't be any better. Can't recommend highly enough! I'm so excited to fire it up and enjoy some warmth this winter.

Arc tech got me out of a bind. Was having a hard time finding a mobile welder in the area that did automotive work. They were super responsive, flexible, and had time the next day to come out, and get the job done right! 10/10 would recommend if you need mobile welding work done in the area.

Lance did a great job helping me extract a fuel injector from our tractor. I worked on it myself off and on for 3 weeks. It took him about an hour to make it a very easy extraction. Thanks Lance!

The hanger bracket for the axle on our RV broke off, taking with it the section of I beam it was attached to. Lance came on short notice (we were on vacation) and did an excellent job of repairing it. It's much stronger now than original. I couldn't be more pleased with his work or professionalism.

Had horse stall dividers that needed fixed, Lance did an amazing job, fixed the welds and reinforced it. It better and stronger now then when they were brand new. Also fixed my ladder on my other trailer. Extremely happy with his attention to detail, very fair, and professional. Thanks Lance!

5 stars is not enough! I was fortunate to find Arc Tech after months of searching for a closer mobile welder who would return my calls or follow through with scheduling. Within 3 days of describing my project, Lance was able to complete my project even though it involved multiple obstacles. He did so with professional and personal communication, reasonable pricing, and a friendly and optimistic attitude through my many questions. He explained all his recommendations and actions and I would not hesitate to go to him for all welding work I have in the future. I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Lance and Arc Tech!!

Called up Arc Tech to see if they could build me a back porch for my camper to sit on. The design I had in my mind would be removable when I took my camper off and it would give me an added 18 inches of room behind my short bed ram 1500 truck.

Industries and Sectors for Submerged Arc Welding (SAW)

Aerospace
Construction

Manufacturing
Oil and Gas
Power Generation
Shipbuilding

Benefits and Applications of Submerged Arc Welding:

  • High Welding Speed: SAW is known for its high deposition rates, allowing for rapid welding and increased productivity, making it ideal for large-scale projects.
  • Deep Penetration: The submerged arc process provides excellent penetration and fusion, resulting in strong and durable welds.
  • Minimal Fume and Spatter: The flux covers the weld pool, significantly reducing smoke and spatter, which enhances the working environment and reduces cleanup.
  • Quality Welds: The controlled environment of SAW leads to consistent and high-quality welds with minimal defects.

SAW is commonly used in various applications, including:

  • Heavy plate fabrication in shipbuilding
  • Construction of large structures, such as bridges and buildings
  • Manufacturing of pressure vessels and tanks
  • Pipeline construction for oil and gas
  • Fabrication of large industrial components

Advantages of Submerged Arc Welding

  • Automated Process: SAW can be easily automated, allowing for continuous production and consistency in weld quality.
  • Cost-Effective: The high deposition rates and efficiency make SAW a cost-effective solution for large-scale welding projects.
  • Versatility: SAW can be used with various materials, including carbon steel, alloy steels, and stainless steel.
  • Reduced Operator Fatigue: The automated nature of the process minimizes the physical demands on welders, promoting a safer work environment.
